I just discovered my sketch pad a faded orange color @BlocRhodia18; #18 marque et modele Qualite France that I had completely forgotten about !
With black ink pen line drawings and some color pastels of Franca inking her plate to print and some portrait sketches, two I did of American Dallas Taylor that etched with me and many others at Atelier 17 in 1978-79 with me, and Jairo ( January 24, 1978), done all the oil pastels on a Tuesday at Atelier 17, 10 rue Didot, 1978.
Franca from Italy , atall brunette, striking like Sophia Loren, piercing deep eyes, and Dallas from the United States, also tall and more lanky, rugged, and Jairo , too.
Both Franca and Dallas are in the puctures I took with the throw-away camera in front of the Atelier 17,:Franca on the right and Dallas in the open door from leaning on the top of tge door with his hand holding it ).
I do not know if Dallas or Jairo drew me, I am guessing Jairo but it will remain a mystery - all done with a darker blue oil pastel.
What fun, serendipitous, quick, great community, great spirit, soooooo happy to discover these!
As I type this on a Sunday, Super Bowl Sunday , February 8, 2026 12:21 i am looking at my tattered , faded orange sketckbook with really thin almost transparent sheets inside and marveling that such an old and loved, worn sketchpad could contain shch surprises!
mt line drawings in the front, so fluid and blocked must have been for some idea or project I was trying to envision.
Then there is a much more hard edged calculated, drawn with more pressure on the paper, one titled " Man in the abstract ", a man-machine vision in 1978 , some others like square eyes , one looking like two cashews!.
All tesearch, all a curiius roving, testing, trying, searching for form and substance, unknowing the outcome, not needing to know the outcome, as my hand moved over the surface of this thin white paper.
One of the oils pastel sketches looking like my mother or family member sleeping?m?!
The front of the Bloc Rhodia #18 sketch pad with my writing on the upper left identifying that it was used at Monsieur Stanley Hater Atelier 17, 10 rue Didot , 75014, [Paris,

Some of these last softer fluid drawings have been ripped out of the sketchpad and when I look at it from the side I see that about half of the pages have been ripped out and are missing.
The missing pages might have been my sketches of the other artists there that I gave to them as my gifts to them, or they drew in it as wellnand tore out pages to keep or drew others and gave them as bifts!? mysteries that may some day be answeted, for now they remain unanswered and tgat is fine with me.
A shared sketch pad? All good whatever!
Cheers! thank you, merci, grazie, gracias a tuti todos tous all!
Priceless times for us allbshared on those two floors of Atelier 17, January 24, 1978 mardi and other days, too!
