The thought that counts! Inspired by a bomb that went off in the waiting room for flights at the Newark airport so many moons ago that while living in Paris, France at the time , this destruction and needless killing of lives had a profound effect on me back in 1978 was it? One artist’s proof here with many others to follow.
I took these pictures two days ago , on Tuesday January 13, 2026 I believe. Pointing the finger, it works both ways, should death be tge point, or simply drawing attention to an issue be what is called for and sufficient!.
This is the age-old dilemna of mankind, or simply a way to make a few individuals rich while destroying others or many, whatever becessary to pad one's pockets at their expense, and life if need be!
I was outraged then in my twenties, still outraged at 72 years of age now!

this was a long time ago but still sooooooooo relevant today!

Atelier 17 gathered many artists together from around the world and many had brief time spent there, and others stayed on for many years like Gail Singer and Akemi Noguchi, Hector Saunier, Krishna Reddy, Jean Clerte, and more, these are some that became mentors to me in one capacity or another.
Atelier 17 was the cauldron, the mixing bowl, the foundation, the one foot on the bround while the other roamed all around.
I am currently looking to get back into stching having been away from it for quite some time as I have experimented with so many other ways to convey my messages , moods, feelings, pure instincts, that untamed wild , oui sangle et fou element of my living being!
I am looking at all the things at that time of my life, and there are many, and in finding themvI will puece together what I may and am capable of doing, and it is enriching and exciting to do this as, even before I etchvagain, at the Arlington Arts Center in northern Virginia, sooooo many ideas come to me as I prepare everything, on a more professional way as I see it is a necessary function today of getting back to some of my early roots and etch and print once again.
i went downstaurs to look at the print tgat Gail Singer gave me and signed, it was difficult for her to do so, and I greatly aporeciate tgat she did.
This is an etching she made , an artist's proof in 1966 I believe, that she named : " Les plantes qui parlent " - the plants that speak! I love the print, thank you Gail!
I made a video or two today of it with the black and white photograph I have of her in her studio apartment in Paris, and I include it in these videos of today, Thursday, January 15, 2026, now 1:55pm as I start this. Sante a tous et bonne annee 2026. It would have been 1978-80 that I spent time with Gail and her friend Eric Schmid , an Austrian tgat was friends with Hunderwauser,

All about discovering oneself and having your space to do so unfettered and bound, tied, talked and advised out of - none of those applied - I was free as a bird off the wire to do as I did, and did I did soulfully, mostly all culled from my imagination!
i drew mostly from my imaginatiob, ferling it iut as I worked my gabd over the surface if paper as I so often worked from sketches as these that I did at the Atelier 17 that i will share gere now on January 14, 2026 on a cool gray winter's day at 12:58 pm as i start to disnliad the pictures and tge video I just made from my #DessinJBervis546 yellow notebook I took around with ne in Paris, dated samedi ke 2 Juin 1979 where Iived in Paris, France at the time 93 Avenue Paul Doumer, 8ieme etage chambre #20 16 arrondisement, with a Mansart roof and a windiw, across from the Turkush toilet!

Had a great conversation with Cristina Weyl today about Atelier 17 , Gail Singer, Krishna Reddy, Eric Schmid, Hector Ssunier, Juan, Madame Paulette, Bruce Dunnet, Pauline Binns, Akemi Noguchi, both New York and all the women that etched there, Paris, Joelle Serve and her Atelier 63 on the Rue Daguerre, and the old man I remember on the street that would always announce : “ Beeeeeel Highterrerrr, le pluuuuuuuus graahhhhhhdddd graveur du monde!”
so much winderfulness as I take picture now slmost fifty years later of my etchings I did in Paris , France!
I started etching with Calvert Brun a traditional French etcher, then will Bill Hayter at his Atelier 17, then meeting Joelle Serve a French lady that had etched at the Atelier 17 at 10 Rue Didot, before opening her own etching Atelier on the Rue Daguerre, also in the 14th arrondisement where I became her twaching assistant working for her when she was not there.
Great times and I look firward to continuing my conversations with Caroline as she plans the hundred ywar anniversay of Atrlier 17!

I learned a lot, I observed others and I pushed myself and my experiments were wide , bold, outrageous and satisfying as I challenged myself in an environment that left me free to do exactly as I pleased with little judgement or interference of any kind, thanks, that’s invaluable! Priceless really ! 1978-89.
experimenting, observing, doing, letting myself delve deep into myself and issues that captivated, fascinated, disturbed, motivated me to tespond boldly, mightily! Anthony Alan Quinn
